Major Construction Activity underway at First Residential Development on Young St., Halifax

Halifax, NS – People traveling on Young Street in Halifax’ north-end these days are seeing the old retail building at 6100 Young Street being demolished. In its place workers will soon break ground and erect a crane as construction of Monaghan Square proceeds. Monaghan Square will be the first residential development on Young Street. It will feature twin 17-storey towers and phase 1 is slated to open spring 2017.

“Monaghan Square is important because it will help revitalize this part of town, providing an additional 850 residents to support local services, retail and other neighbourhood businesses,” says Developer Robert Margeson.

Residents will enjoy the urban lifestyle of being on the peninsula with access to plenty of local amenities, but avoid the high prices and traffic of living downtown.

One tower will feature 162 condo units ranging from 621 to 1875 square feet for purchase. The second tower offers another 164 rental units from 621 to 1875 square feet.

“Response to Monaghan Square has been very positive,” says Realtor Brenda MacKenzie, “From the early days of meetings with city council and during public consultations we have been encouraged by the approval. And now that we have started advertising and construction, we are hearing major interest from realtors, potential buyers and the online community.”

Since advertising began in December, there have been over 1,200 “click throughs” on ViewPoint.ca, which is Nova Scotia’s real estate and MLS listing, and over 300 people have pre-registered via Monaghan’s website for news and updates on the development. Online advertising has generated over 13,000 sessions on monaghansquare.com.  MacKenzie has also received dozens of phone inquiries.

MacKenzie attributes this enthusiasm to the desirable location of Monaghan Square and the beauty of the design of the future towers and condos.

“I think another contributing factor is the broader consumer trend of increasing condominium demand reported recently by CMHC,” says Margeson, “Demographics and price are inspiring condo sales over single-family detached homes.”

On February 5, 2015 Monaghan Square will host an invitation-only open house from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in its brand new sales centre showroom to launch sales of the condos. The showroom features a model kitchen and bathroom so guests can see what to expect in the finished condos.   Guests will also see unit floor plans and an impressive architectural model of the entire project featuring the 30,364 square foot  landscaped podium deck – no other project has anything like this.  Finally, guests will meet some of the retail neighbours, and have first “dibs” when actual sales begin the next day.
